Divisional Secretariat - Maspotha

The Maspotha Divisional Secretariat Division is situated within the Kurunegala District of the North Western Province, covering an area of 58.09 square kilometres, historically known as the Kudagalboda Korale. The Division is bounded by the Yakdessa Mountain Range to the east and the Maguru Oya to the west. It comprises 33 Grama Niladhari Divisions encompassing 80 villages.

The total population of the Division is 43,674, with 12,731 households. The majority of the population consists of Sinhalese Buddhists, while a very small percentage belongs to other ethnic and religious communities.

The Maspotha Divisional Secretariat Division experiences an intermediate climatic zone and has a predominantly agricultural-based economy. Coconut cultivation is the principal commercial crop, while paddy cultivation is the major agricultural crop. Paddy farming is carried out under both minor irrigation schemes and rain-fed conditions.

Although agriculture has traditionally been the primary occupation of the residents, this trend is gradually changing, with an increasing number of people seeking employment in both the public and private sectors.

Due to its close proximity to Kurunegala, the capital city of the North Western Province, residents of the Division enjoy easy access to various urban facilities and services. Furthermore, children in the Division have greater opportunities to receive education at well-established and reputed schools in and around Kurunegala.

Previously considered a semi-urban area, the Maspotha Divisional Secretariat Division is currently undergoing rapid urbanization as a result of various development programs implemented within the area. In addition, there has been a significant increase in the establishment of private sector institutions and commercial enterprises, contributing to the socio-economic development of the Division.
